LUNA CHIX GIVES BACK

Boston’s vibrant and diverse cycling community is pleased to welcome Alison Dunlap to town for a day on two-wheeled training, and a dinner in aid of the Breast Cancer Fund. Dunlap, a name that is synonymous with world-class bicycle racing, has now shifted her focus on helping other women achieve their full potential as cyclists. Dunlap will coach a cyclocross session at the Mass Hospital School, Canton, on Saturday. For the rest of us, Dunlap will host an evening at the Mount Vernon Restaurant, Somerville, Saturday evening.
Dunlap was in Boston last year to take home the win at the annual Gloucester Cyclocross Race. She is giving back to her team, the LUNA Womens Mountain Bike Team and the Breast Cancer Fund at a smartly timed dinner that coincides with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Dunlap, as spokesperson for Team LUNA will talk about her life, including how she got started in cycling, what it was like to be a professional cyclist, the LUNA team’s success, and the Breast Cancer Foundation. Dunlap will be available for questions before and after Saturday’s event due to the intimate space and setting. The DVDs of Off Road to Athens will be signed by Dunlap and are available for purchase. It features eight heartbreaking, sometimes heartbreaking, bids for three spots on 2004 Olympic Team (including Dunlaps final chance at the Games). Pedros bike care products and a selection of LUNA bars will be among the items that will be raffled off. Saturday’s event is a great place to meet other cyclists who are out and about looking for people to race or ride with. There is no better time than National Breast Cancer Awareness Month to show support for anyone who has been touched by breast cancer.

About LUNA, the Breast Cancer Fund
Since its inception, LUNA has supported the Breast Cancer Fund since 1999. They collaborate on a number of national initiatives, including LUNAFEST, a travelling women’s short film festival, as well as Team LUNA Chix which is a network of women’s community-based sports teams. Through local events, both programs help raise awareness and money for Breast Cancer Fund.

It’s a powerful combination: LUNA is the top-selling womens energy bar, and Breast Cancer Funds top corporate sponsor. Because of their commitment to women’s issues, nutrition, and environmental sustainability, LUNA was a great fit for the Breast Cancer Fund’s preventive, prevention-focused and sustainable approach to protecting human bodies from harmful chemicals and other environmental exposures. Breast Cancer Funds mission aims to eliminate environmental and preventable causes. LUNA has donated over Million to Breast Cancer Fund. 20% of this support has come from LUNA’s community activism and fundraising efforts.
